Exhaust Question
I have deleted the rear muffler and replaced with a straight piece of pipe. The sound is AMAZING but not quite as cracky and bubbly as i want it lol. I am looking into deleting both resonators but i am also in process of preping my car for a turbo charger conversion here soon and i know the more open the exhaust the better. Just wondering if this is a beneificial move to take the resonators off as well

It'll be louder, maybe sound better, and you'll probably lose some back pressure to the engine. I'm not the person to ask about back pressure though, I'm sure someone will be able to tell you if you would lose enough to have a negative effect on the engine.

Thats what i am scared of is losing back pressure because a car does need some back pressure for perofrmace. I still have the cat and the pre-cat but i just want to get some of the focus familys opinions

Exactly. The cats are the main choke points, so I don't imagine you'd lose a significant amount of back pressure.. But again, I'm not really an exhaust guy :P

If you want loud and absolutely obnoxious, then you'll want to get rid of the resonator and first muffler. If you are keeping the piping diameter stock size, you won't run into back-pressure issues. As you and matmatician alluded to, the pre-cat in the exhaust manifold (and a second cat if you have one) will provide enough restriction. |

Deleting both mufflers and the resonator will result in an obnoxiously loud exhaust. Someone on here had posted a video of their car without any muffling pieces on it. It was loud. I started my car up when I had everything behind the cat removed, and while it was very loud, it didn't sound horrible, but for a daily driver is was far more than I can handle. Several of us have gone with either brand-name or custom-made exhausts with just 1 muffler and are quite happy with the sound and power gains. Check out my videos, Redfocz...I know there's more, just look around.

If your going turbo then stop working on your stock tubing. leave it the way it is and save your money for the turbo. its going to sound like ass if you delete both mufflers.
Your going to want to run 2.5 or 3" for the turbo any ways so i wouldn't invest any more time on our exhaust other than what you have already done until your ready to bump up the tubing size.

Back pressure is a myth, just FYI
![]() http://www.automotiveforums.com/t943..._s_wrong_.html But like others said if you are going to do a Turbo setup soon, I wouldn't worry too much about your current exhaust. Just cut the other muffler and keep the same size piping. |
