Thaks, both of you. I will look at the lower mount and the heat shields. unfortunately, it looks like this may have been going on a while. It looks like the battery may have been loosing fluid somehow out of the top, I suspect from this shaking. I pulled it, and the bottom of the tray had two pools of fluid. It looks like there are white deposits on top of the transmission.

There is a metal plate under the battery box bolted to the side wall. Something is suspended from this plate. Is that the transmission mount? I need to remove the battery box and this plate to have a good look underneath. Can I simply unbolt this plate or will I need to support something (ie transmission) from underneath?

I haven't found the source of the knock, it seems to be present some time but not all the time. I don't think the knock has anything to do with the battery issue.

You should get a haynes manual for 00-07 Focus before you go taking things apart...

The body style is different but a good 80% of the cars are identical. The biggest differences are the interior.

Mechanically, about 95% of instructions and photos for the Duratec will be identical to your car.

Also, if you don't know what to look for, it is best to take it to a shop or dealer. It's a 2011, you should still have warranty left on it?

Yes, I'm going to get the Haynes manual. I didn't find the heat shield to be loose as far as I could tell. The passenger mount seems to be ok. Could not really tell about the drivers side mount. I tried to take some photos of the bushings in the dogbone. At first I thought the forward bushing looked pinched in there, but not sure. Is there a way to upload photos besides using a url or how do I use the url.

I'll let you know what they add for 2008 - 2011 when it gets here. I wanted to be as up to date on the battery area and transmission mount as I could, though. Not liking Ford's design too much at the moment.

Here is the best I could get for what I'm hearing while driving. Shifting at lower rpm, you can hear the rumble between gears. Normal or problem?

Photos of my dogbone. Opinions on condition of bushings?
