I've driven the ST back to back with a 2013 6AT Mustang GT 5.0 and personally up to the 80 mph mykey limiters that they put on the cars to keep people from getting too crazy with the cars the ST felt so much nicer to drive, and although it was down on power it was more usable, and much easier to see out of as it had a normal seating position and good sightlines out of the car, vs the high cowl in the Mustang, particularly when the GTs had the manual recaro seats sitting on the floor without giving us any indication of height adjustibility, or comfort imo vs the nice power or manual recaros in the ST.

definately depends on the intended purpose ... if it's gonna be a daily driver get the ST, toy only get the Mustang. I'd already be driving an ST if it weren't for the fact I already have 3 Mustangs for toys and a Focus Ti for DD/gas mileage. I've had 2 turbo4 cars in the past and both got only a hair better gas mileage than my 5.0L Mustang does which scares me off the ST a bit for a DD.

I picked up my ST last Thursday... all I can say is, the bar has been raised. This car is a joy to drive, at ANY speed, though it is easy to go fast! I drove it down from Ohio to Florida, I am a big dude with broad shoulders, and the Recaro's were pretty comfy and supportive, even for my size. Shifting is crisp and solid, throttle response and torque is stellar and it feels like it's on rails. Carving out the mountain roads on I75 through Tennessee has never been so fun. For the record, while visiting, I drove a 2010 Mustang GT with an intake, exhaust header, exhaust, race cams and a tune, making about 440 HP. That car was vicious and wickedly fast, but I would still choose the ST. The Mustang owner (bro in law) drove the Focus and could not believe how quick it was and how well it handled.

Turboed I4's/v6's are the new v8's
St is more unique, gt's are like belly buttons = everyone has one. Plus a fast sexy looking 4 door wagon is sexy as fk... More practical and easier/cheaper to mod in the long run Last edited by FLYLOW; 12-06-2012 at 12:49 PM. |

I'd say it depends if you have another vechicle or not. If so go for the GT, if not the ST is it then.

Obviously since it's a focus forum, I'm going to say get the ST. It's more practical than the mustang by far. Not only in terms of fuel consumption but cargo space as well. I remember having to ride in the back seat of my friend's mustang with a 40" TV on my lap because the trunk wasn't large enough to hold it. My favorite part about the ST though is the fact that it feels like a boyish hot rod while still being refined and practical enough to be driven every day.

The Focus ST will never have over 400hp or run 12 second 1/4 mile times without some major cash outlay so actually the Mustang might be more practical in the long run if you're content with "only" 400hp.
I do agree that the Focus is probably more practical on a daily basis but if it's a 2nd car I'd take the Mustang.

If the Mustang is even a viable option as far as what you can use day to day, then Mustang, hands down.
I test drove the ST first when shopping for a DD. I ended up buying an SE with a 5 speed, if that tells you anything. I sure hope it gets better than what I test drove, cuz it ain't got nuthin on a stock 2011 GT, and certainly wasn't 8 grand faster than the deal I got on my LOADED SE with a 5 speed.
