Apple implemented non-standard MAP with iOS6

Per SMR, testing shows that iOS6 has a non-standard implementation of MAP, therefore texts won't work in a robust manner with MFT. Ford is trying to work with Apple.

You're not really surprised are you? Everything Apple does is non standard. Look at their cables. I'm surprised they don't have their own special usb ports.

I was at a wifi seminar for work yesterday and the bluetooth app engineer for Microchip was telling us that Crapple has started to implement Bluetooth in a non-standard way, which of course is going to force a bunch of developers to comply and pay the "Apple Tax" just to be able to sell accessories. I understand they want to be "ground-breaking" all the time, but undermining standards constantly because you can and you're big enough to do it sucks. That is costing $$$ everywhere for everyone. The Bluetooth SIG should stop bending over and pull their qualification.

"robust"? I think "reliable" Or "accurate" is more apropos...

And given how Apple was blathering about "open standards" some time ago (re: HTML5), giving back to the open source community that gave it much of OS X (and therefore iOS) in the first place, it's not exactly funny to read "non-standard", which is something every company would do to ensure "customer lock-in".

I used to be a fan of Apple, but ever since "You're holding it wrong!" followed up by the articles of the engineer letting the CEO who blamed the customer that there was a defect and that said CEO chose to ignore it, never mind more technical articles that show how these overpriced things are poorly built, it's been harder to like Apple ever since.

I'm waiting for the Apple apologists on this forum to even try and spin this the right way.

Its a pain in the ass when I have my other devices that work well with MFT and all systems and then iOS comes and takes a massive dump.

Hell, since iOS 6 the song names don't even show up over A2DP streaming.

This is one of the main reasons i refuse to buy Apple products. Always have some sort of proprietary method of getting things to work. It makes something that should be so easy very complicated.

You mean like in 1998 when they introduced the iMac and it had USB ports only instead of DB9 or DB25 or other serial ports? And everyone screamed bloody murder because nobody was using USB ports and no peripherals supported them. And now...

This is a car forum right? Not a weird gadget forum where people defend their devices like sports teams?

Lets add some perspective, the worlds best selling car, does not work correctly with the worlds best selling phone.

The phone sells millions per week, and the car sells tens of thousands per month. From a business perspective it is far more likely that a Ford Focus owner will have an iPhone then an iPhone owner will have a Ford Focus. That tends to put the burden on Ford to make this work, and interestingly they have indicated that they will do just that.

As for Apple, they have always pushed and manipulated standards. We could argue about their reasons, but honestly I haven't never spoken to any of the management at Apple, nor read very many interviews about this topic, how do we know anything about their motivations?

Webkit is the most popular layout engine on the internet, it is heavily contributed to and originally (kinda) developed by Apple, then open-sourced.

Lets stick to talking about cars.

Agreed, they are on the front edge of a lot of good things. They just need to work on backward capatibility a bit more until everyone else catches up or standardizes.

Totally different situation. This is not adopting a new technology.

They are now using their power to pervert an open standard, one that was designed to be open and free to further innovation and competition, to force developers and manufacturers to pay to use that open standard on products that Apple develops.

That is fine in and of itself. But they should not be allowed to use the Bluetooth logo and they should not be able to call themselves or their products compliant to the standard.
