Hey, FLIR - now THAT'S something to think about. Actually, if you live in town and have a simple driveway and no kids, then I suppose it's just on for giggles. But I live on a ranch with grandkids, dogs, cats, chickens and ducks. Also, my driveway is frequently littered with log splitters, tools, wheel barrows, garden carts, motorcycles, etc, many of which are just below the rear window view and inside what I can see from the side-view mirrors as I back out of the garage - it would be useful, trust me.

I got a lot of messages about the backup camera that I added that works through the MFT screen so I did some research and my dealer sent my car to a place called audio specialist. they added a unit that is called INTRAPHEX (not available to the public they say) that allows a 3rd party camera to interface with the MFT system. if you live in SOCAL you can give Jose a call

After market parking camera...
Has anyone successfully installed one and gotten it to work with the display?

Today, 04:45 PM #81Mrlandy Focus Jr. Enthusiast ![]() Join Date: May 2012 Fan#: 99623 Location: Somewhere, CT What I Drive: 2012 focus titanium hatch Posts: 31 FF Reputation: 2 Buy-Sell-Trade Rating: (0) Just finished my backup camera install on my 2012 titanium. I previously purchased a full Nav unit from a wreck down south. I received the unit without any harness, wires, etc. The camera I decided on was from eBay. Here is he link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Focus-2...-/251114743206 My titanium had pins 14 & 15 on the main harness already ( not sure about non titaniums, se and sel may have to install the 2 square pins in 14 and 15) and since my new unit was backup camera ready, there was no need to buy a Nav TV 2. Before I installed the camera, I always got the backup can error, so i new rear camera was facory enabled. Pins 14 and 15, blue and green are video +/ -. These were the only connections to install on the head in, rca cable + to blue, - to green. Now I had the rca cable input that was automatically switched on in reverse with parking break off. I routed the rca tword the front, through the left side open notch, into the dash and pulled it through under the dash under the steering wheel. The reverse wire on the rca he the head unit wasn't needed. I ran the rca down the drivers side floor to the rear without removing molding until I got into the hatch. I pulled he rca under the rear seat to the inside of the bolt that lets the rear seat fold. Removing styrofoam hatch tray and under padding, using he child hatch as a wire guide. Then behind the trunk liner in the drivers side, to the rear brake light. The kit comes with a 12v camera, so I was able to draw power from the backup light. Two wires, power and ground. Now remove all of the hatch panels, they pop right off with a bit of force. The rear hatch handle covers pop off to reveal 4 screws holding the trim on, remove them to expose the internal wiring. Route the wires from the brake light up the inside molding to to headliner and punch out the rubber wire housing. The rubber housing pops off and you can separate the headliner enough to route the wires through the grommit and down the side. You will have to remove 6 bolts holding on the outside handle trim to remove the OEM tailgate release. There will be 3 wires from the connector, light +/- and trunk latch, the trunk is the smaller gauge black wire and connects to the replacement eBay latch. Solder all connections and coat with silicone, then plastic dip all external connections to ensure that all is water tight. Since he camera had a backup grid built in, I disabled he grid from me radio. Works like a charm and looksOEM. No I have Nav and reverse cam without he auto park option. :-) |
