still on the original tank of gas from the dealership... car has 150 miles on it and on the drive home i saw 38.7... mostly interstate... that's what the trip computer was saying but haven't actually been able to do the real math yet since it's still the first tank...

After two months and 2,000 miles in my 2012 Focus SEL with the 6-speed auto (PowerShift model, EPA ratings are about 1mpg less than non PowerShift models) here's what I'm getting in my car.

From home to work (3 miles each way) with a lot of stop and go, 23-27mpg over a two period (one tank).

Driving around Augusta to kids sports games, shopping, doctor appointments 32-34mpg.

Driving to/from between Augusta and Atlanta doing the speed limit +/- 10mph (with traffic) 34mpg to ATL, 38 from ATL - average 36mpg.

Driving to/from between Augusta and Atlanta doing the speed limit +/- 4mph (pissing off traffic when I pass the slow lane folks) 36mpg to ATL, 38 from ATL - average 37mpg.

Driving around ATL highways and interstates, 45mph-70mph, always got 40mpg (with occassional red lights).

My tank fulls are averaging no 33-34mpg with mixed driving over a two week period. I reset the mileage counter frequently.

I hope that helps.

2007 SE, stock, auto trans

28MPG city
34MPG hwy

I do about 50%:50% city:hwy, so I'm usually around 31MPG average, 1-2MPG less in the winter.

I have a 2013 SE auto. I'm not to happy with the MPG this Focus gets. I drive 80% highway and still only get 27.2 Avg. I've had it as high as 28.3 on a trip to and from Indy ( 200 Miles round trip) with the cruze control set at 65 MPH. I've had the car for about 4 months. I don't beat it.
Is the MPG going to go up after the engine brakes in? I'm guessing maybe 1 to 2 MPG.

Yes, your mileage will improve after your car is broken in. It will also improve in the warmer months. My driving profile is like yours and I track my mileage via actual fillups vs the hype guage that overestimates mine by 2 mpg on average.

I have an 09 SES that is averaging 32.21 over the last 99k miles.
My lowest was 25.92 after a winter storm and hours long commute.
My highest has been 36.02 in the summer.

I drive a bit faster than you with speeds of 55-60 for the first 25 miles, 70-75 for the next 20 and 45 for the last 5. I don't hypermile, and could probably get a bit better mileage if I slowed down. Another factor in my mileage and possibly yours is that I live in a state that mandates a 10% ethanol blend in all regular unleaded gas. My older Escorts and Tracers lost 2-3 mpg when the switch happened. I don't know how much the Focus loses, because the only E0 gas is premium and that's not comparing apples to apples.

In looking back through my mileage history, I can see that I had many fillups in the first few months under 29, but this winter I have only had 2 fillups under that. Both probably because of the cold weather and warming up the car before leaving.

So after that wall of text, you should probably see much improved mileage soon.
