Low MPG on new 2012 Titanium Hatch

The other benefit (if you look at it this way) of S mode around town is a very quick tap on the break will force a downshift and you can use engine braking to slow down. I find it very handy when the traffic's light enough that I can anticipate lights up ahead. Don't think it would do much for you in complete stop and go.

Well first tank of gas after the battery was unhook and I check the connections in the engine area. Guess what.....wait for it....wait for it.....from 23.6 mpg to 30.0 mpg. and the weather is still cold and no change in driving habit, hmmmmm??? Make me wonder, but I won't get my hopes up yet till I see a few tanks near 30.

I have the 2012, with 17" wheels, titanium. I have gone close to 6000 miles and am barely getting 25MPG, if that, when calculating by hand having kept track of gallons put in , etc.

I wouldn't mind so much, but the tank is so tiny at 12.5, I can only go 300 miles before I need to fill up. I had expected much better than this. (Anyone know a trick to make your tank bigger!? :)

My drive is half freeway, half city commuting, and you would think I would get about 30MPG average, but I don't. I have tried using cruise control, SS, and other things, but nothing works.

Should I have it looked at? I am not even getting the city average, when half my time is on the freeway.

Yes you should take it in and let them get it on record. See if they give you any better answers then I got. I get around 28 mpg with mostly country driving. When on the highway if I drive over 80(by accident) it seems to really take a dump downward. I am working with ford customer service right now. I have to return a call to them this week when I can set down and talk to them. What ever you do get it checked out. Use Fuelly or Fuel economy.gov to track your fuel milage(it's free). Also a good place to get good info so you can see that 90% of the Ti owners get on average of 32 mpg with thier cars. Only us few 10% get lower.

I see you live in socal and even though half your commute is highway it could be as bad a city roads if stuck in traffic and socal is notorious for that. So, if your highway driving involves a fair amount of stop-and-go driving or if the city driving has stop-and-go driving it's entirely possible to get 25mpg when the car is working properly.

The Mk3 FF gets great mileage in all conditions EXCEPT stop-and-go and in those conditions the mileage is actually pretty bad. If you do mostly stop-and-go you could see less than 20mpg...

There is no stopping usually on the freeway. City , yes there is some stop and go,and the stop and go is not that bad. Just a few stop lights.
but about 12 out of 20 miles is freeway.

I just get depressed when I see everyone else saying they are getting 30MPG +

Should I try premium gas?

What do you have to lose other than $3? The price of my own peace of mind is much higher than $3.

I tried that route already. I didn't see any difference with mine. But worth a shot.
