Installing Cruise Control on 08-11

saw this on another forum seems you can enable cruise control yourself (and other features too) not tried it myself but feedback from other members seems good you need an elm cable and to download some freeware

Just finished this a few weeks ago, makes the commute much easier, everything worked nearly perfect, I only had to call two dealers to find one who was willing to do it, (cost 60$) very happy with it, thanks for the info

Thanks for a great post. I am currently going to get a new steering wheel on my 2010 S without original cruise control because the steering wheel was "peeling". After reading this post, I called the dealership to ask them if I could pay the difference between the steering wheel they had ordered for me and one that has the cruise control buttons as part of the warranty repair. At first they denied that it could be done as easily as this post describes, but after they checked it out admitted that what this post says is correct, they simply stated that warranty rules dictate that a part returned must be replaced with the exact same part, no exceptions, even if the customer agrees to pay the difference. Lame, so lame. I wonder if they think they will ever see me again after the new steering wheel is installed.

I am planning to purchase a new steering wheel to replace my original which doesn't have buttons. The car doesn't have sync, but I am thinking I might purchase a wheel that has cruise buttons on the left side and radio / sync buttons on the right side.

Is the connector the same on a wheel that has just cruise buttons as opposed to a wheel that has both cruise and sync buttons?

If the car doesn't have sync on it now, and I install a wheel with both sync and cruise buttons will the radio volume buttons work? I know the call button won't work, but I'm hoping the volume control will.

It is my understanding that there is a difference between the radio installed with the buttons on the steering wheel and the radio installed without those buttons.

I have no first hand experience, but I seem to remember a thread where someone tried the same thing and they were not able to get the radio or sync buttons to work.

If you decide to give it a try please let us know if it works! I commute 124 miles each day, and the cruise control has worked flawlessly for the past year after the install!

has anyone figured out how to activate this without going to the dealer or knowing Russian? I've had the cruise control steering wheel in my car for a few months but they want to charge me almost $200 just to activate it...
