Performance Shocks
Been away for a while and had to find my way around the new site. I seriously need new shocks! I have Eiback springs and a Steeda stabilizer setup on a 2008 S coupe and I'm looking for non-adjustable improved street performance units. I've been to several dealer sites, but the folks on this forum have always been my best source of information since I began modding my car. What can you suggest and, as always, thanks for the information.

unfortunately there isn't really anything out there for the 08-11. most have swapped to a previous design and used that.

Performance Shocks
Thanks Kipp. Can you explain what you mean by a previous design? I didn't think I'd have this degree of trouble. Are performance shocks worth it, or should I just go with something like Monroe's?

Which Eibach springs do you have? You'll need dampers that'll go w/ those springs. lowering/ shorter springs call for struts & shocks that can deal w/ the shorter & stiffer springs. Koni yellows work great for shorter/stiffer springs, but they are adjustable.

the sets are 00-04, 05-07, 08-11. each one has a slightly different design. on the 00-04 the bottom of the front struts are a smaller diameter than the newer ones, 05-07 and 08-11 are same. they all have different top hats and different spring design.
they can be swapped between years, but require different parts to do so. the issues you have now is if you want to keep the springs you have you are limited to dampers that will work with those springs. on the rear all 00-11 are the same exc the wagon. same springs and dampers.

I have the Eibach Pro-Kit Lowering Springs with the Eibach Anti-Roll Sway Bars. I'm willing to go with adjustable units at this point if necessary as I never considered the effects of lowering springs. I'm not racing this car so I wonder if it's worth it, or just stay with a good set of stock units and if so, which brand.

Thermal - You'll probably get the best responses over in the "Wheels, Tires, Brakes & Suspension" Forum, so I'll move this over there for you.
Due to the small number of manufacturers that have made struts to fit the newer cars, the "Omni Kit" to adapt struts that are made to fit the earlier years is a popular solution. It adds quite a bit to the price of replacing struts on the later cars, but it's a one time purchase & opens up the choices tremendously. (basically a quality set of sleeves to take up the difference in diameter) Stock shocks would be marginal at best with lower & stiffer springs, you'll be amazed at the improvement with ANY of the avail. units that match to those springs. Luck! |

Some clarification.....the front strut design changed in 06. The base of the strut got fatter and the spring seat design changed for those models. As mentioned, 00-05 struts can be used on 06+ (second gens cars) with an Omni Kit by Massive. The kit is essentially a shim that fits around the base of the smaller (earlier) front strut allowing it to fit in the 06+ knuckle. You'd have to use 00-05 springs as well as the 06+ springs will not fit the earlier struts.
