True. But my original post was open season on all weight loss and light weight parts - rotating mass and dead weight.

And its not just about wheels. Its the combined weight of wheels and tires. There are certain wheel tire combos that weigh less than others. Sometimes the right 18" wheel with the right tire weighs less than a 17" with a comparable tire.

The only change I would make is......

A lighter exhaust from Magnaflow (if it would in fact help mpg) and lighter wheels (that actually look good). So many light weight wheels are so ugly.

Intake + exhaust + conservative driving habits = better fuel efficiency

intake + exhaust + aggressive driving habits = more power

But very commonly manufacturers will put additional weight in the car to give it a more solid feel in leau of using a better material. Almost all automobiles are made out of stamped steel. Its expense is reasonable and its strong. Many times these steel pieces can be constructed out of equally strong machined aluminum that is much lighter.

Do anyone have any exploded view pictures of the chassis and interior assembly? Odds are that there is weight hidden away or components easily up graded to lighter stronger materials.

The Focus uses a lot of high strength steel in the chassis. I can't think of anything I could lose except maybe getting lighter wheels. The 2900+ lb. weight is a bit excessive though. I was thinking about my heated seats as I drove tonight wondering how much weight they added but I love having warm seats, not gonna ditch them.

Thats basically a picture of everything in the focus that should not be considered for weightloss.

In regard to an earlier post. I also have the heated seats and my Wife would have me murdered in the night if I replaced them with light weight seats. But I too keep thinking about how much more they weigh than say for instance the recaro's in the Focus ST.

My JDM WRX came with factory recaro's that were very light weight.

Recaros are heated. Prolly pretty pricey, though. You have a narrow ass? I don't think I'd fit in the riccis
