Some 2012 Focus vehicles built on or before 1/14/2012 may not display the low washer solvent message as detailed in the Owner's Guide.

ACTION:
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Using the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) start a new IDS session.
ID the vehicle; select the tool box at the vehicle screen.
Select module programing.
Select programmable parameter.
Select car configuration parameters.
Select vehicle configuration.
Retrieve professional technician society (PTS) delivered as-built data.
Follow the on-screen prompts.

Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage

My SEL is currently in the shop to have the VCM2 install to my car. I have asked the dealer to check this missing low washer fluid warning and they were able to have it working. The feature, as I understood it, was there...The car computer didnt knew about it, so they did some kind of PCM reboot (probably the procedure listed above) and now I am told the warning now activates itself when the level of fluid gets to low.

I can now chuck this one off the bug list.

Is that vcm2 for preventative measures/recording data, or it is being used to diagnose a current problem? If you don't mind me asking.

The Focus is the first car I've ever driven with a warning for low or no fluid. I live in northern Alberta now. Plenty of and and salt on the high ways. And I lived and drove in Newfoundland for 5 years before that. I think they came up with the idea of putting salt on the road in Newfoundland, if not perfected it. It's not a big deal to throw a jug of wash fluid in the trunk and if you run out pull over and top up. That's what I always did.

That being said. A new or pretty new car should work right. If it's something as simple as the indicator isn't working correctly bring it to the dealership and tell them to fix the damn thing. Simple as that.

Of course. This is the first car I have ever had to have this indicator, never even heard of a car with one before. It really is no big deal, but like you said- It is a NEW car and ALL the features it has should work and work correctly. No matter how "small" or "insiginifcant" they may be.
