Well, let's not get carried away. LOL! The Focus is more fun to drive - IMHO.

Sent from my iPhone using FF Mobile. Typos and terseness are to be expected.

This is off-topic, but you might want to look into discussions about the stock tires.

I own a 12 SE 5-spd.

I had to order mine to get a SE w/o the auto. All the dealers around had S models with Manuals but no SEs.

I have had it since 1 week of March 2012, and have put nearly 28k on the car in the past 9 months.

the focus just felt more fun to drive with the manual, less boring and given my MPG exceeding the EPA I am happy with my decision even if the 6spd auto might have been more frugal.

You know what's interesting? I have not see my local dealer stock anything *but* a manual. I've only ever seen manual SE models on their lot. Right now they have four of them: in red, black, blue, and white.

Maybe it's the local market. Maybe there is something about the local market that they are catering too. I dunno.

Definitely look into your tires. There is no doubt that as your tires wear, they will become more noisy. If you don't rotate them regularly (like you should), you could be getting weird wear patterns that are increasing the noise.

I'm coming up on 6k miles and don't find any road noise issues.

Add another 5 speed here. Picked up a lovely SE model in Sterling Gray on Tuesday. MFT, Leather, Sony Nav, black 17's equipped car that was from a Houston dealer.

They had to order it from another dealer 60 miles away. There were NO 5 speed cars in about 20-30 Focii on the lot.

i too had a very hard time finding a 5 speed SE sedan... there were a few 5 speed HB's out there in fact my dealer had one that i test drove (the Friday after Thanksgivng). i immediately fell in love with it... i liked how the shifter seemed to click into each gear and i also liked how the clutch pedal felt... a week prior to that, i test drove a manual Dodge Dart "Arrow" edition... the clutch pedal in the Dart was way too light for me and it also seemed to catch way too far at the top of the pedal... i didn't like it at all, including the bulbous shift handle... just felt too big for your hand and wasn't comfortable... anyways, getting back to the Focus, i searched online all evening (same day i test drove the MTX HB) and couldn't find any 5 speed sedans in Sterling Grey... i thought i may have to order one at this time... even autotrader didn't produce any hits for me so the next day my step dad suggest carsoup... low and behold, a dealer in Waukesha (a little over an hour from me) had one advertised... i sent them an internet price request and they came back an hour later with a response... their price was 14,990... i couldn't hardly believe that price so i gave them a call... the salesman said part of that price was an $1,100 "internet rebate" and that if i was a current Ford owner 1995 or newer (also have 97 Taurus SHO), that was worth another $2,895... all i had to do was bring in the title so they could photocopy it... to make a long story short, i got the car exactly how i would have ordered it and at a great price... i think it was $16,200 with tax, title, and license out the door...
