What would be the cheapest/best for my money exhaust to put on?

Fswerks stealth IMO. (Sound clips on YouTube)

Is it what I'm running? No because I'm a cheap ass. Custom 3" conventional with a generic turbo/stealth muffler.

If im just looking for better sound and not that worried about performance. Is it easier to just get a aftermarket muffler instead of the whole system?

Cat back without mandrel bends your going to pay 200ish installed
Muffler only 100ish but not worth it IMO.

If you want sound only do a lunch box delete that's free assuming you have the tools. If not go spend 30 at harbor freight for an angle grinder and a pack of cut off wheels.

Will I still be able to get it inspected without the lunch box? Or is it illegal to have off?

I can’t say for your state with certainty but I’d be very surprised if the emission laws there are stricter than California’s and it passes here.

Emissions says any thing behind the CAT is OK (as long as the pipe behind the cat is at least x inches long)

Noise police say any thing under 95db is OK

If they use pipe sniffers in your state the guy may look at you funny when he goes to put the sniffer in that's about it.

Okay thanks. I will probably just do this. Is it hard to do, or pretty simple?

Jack the back of the car up cut it off takes <30 minutes.

I used a cut off wheel which didn't quite make it completely though the pipe so I had to twist the last bit off.

Some states have lays that state that you cant dump your exhaust under the occupied section of the vehicle. Since the Focus is all an "occupied" space, if your state has a problem they may call you out on it.

Also not to mention you have air vents in the trunk on both sides, the driver side air vent would most likely allow exhaust fumes to enter the cabin even more so when at an idle.

at the vary least after cutting it out, route some flexible pipe out the back or have a shop bend a piece should be in the 20-30 range for a small bent section. Then use an exhaust clamp to tighten it down.
