Would you buy a rental?

If you can get it inspected and the price is low, I don't see why not, especially if the factory warranty remains.

I've tried Hertz Rent-to-Buy before, in which they let you rent the car for up to 3 days before buying the car. I checked out a 2012 Mustang GT with 38K miles for $23,000. Front suspension made a creaky noise over bumps so no go... but perhaps you'll have better luck with a Focus?

Thanks for the huge amount of responses. I think this is a great thread for anyone thinking of buying a rental. I actually found a one owner CPO that I'm picking up on Saturday!

I have bought rentals exclusively for the past 4 cars. There are risks, but the pricing is tough to say no to. I very closely inspect the cars, get down on my hands and knees and check the car over well. You can tell a lot about how a car has been driven by looking at the corners and the skid plates. I also only buy them at the manufacturer dealership (focus at ford ect) if that dealer has a rental company attached (rental agency at dealer). My cars have always been immaculate, in perfect maintenence and smoking deals. My SEL is a rental, 30500 miles on it when I bought it for $12.5... extended warrenty, brand new tires... It's a great car, next car will likely be an ex-rental as well.

My Focus was also a CPO and I've been very happy with it. Congrats!

One year ago, I bought my daughter a 2010 SEL, previous rental, Ford Certified Used. Got a great price on a fully loaded Focus with 30K miles on it. It looks very clean and we have had zero issues with it. Certified warranty to 100k, I'd buy one again...
