Just picked my SVT up in September with 83,000 on the clock. Purchased the entire timing belt assembly (Belt, Idler pulley, Tensioner pulley, Valve cover gasket) from Steve at Tousley Ford for a little over $100 and had the work done at a local shop with experienced mechanics I trust for $240 labor. Since I can't vote for some reason I had right at 86,000 when done.

I did mine myself at around 93k using the Gates TCK294B kit. I bought the car at 88k miles and the previous owner didn't know anything about it so I did it just to be safe. Glad I did cause I found a bunch of other issues while I was working around there.
It's been about 6 months since and everything is running well. |

I did it myself on my Zx3. It lasted to 127keep but when I took it off the timing belt had a hunch of cracks, hugh.... it is good now, runs like a champ. I got the Gates timing kit with both pulleys and hot the aligning kit from Amazon for about $20, it was a 5 hour job. And at that time I ganged the crank pulley to a light weight one.

Just had my 2nd one done at 151,000....belt was showing typical wear but no other problems....So i did the usual stuff both belts, tensioner's and idler's, went ahead and did the water pump...so now at idle it has a wine coming from water pump goes away as the rpm's build up....think that will be changed while under warranty.
Then today i noticed on my way home from work more vibration...which i figured poly mounts and cold weather...typical right....well raised the hood and both bolts that bolt into the block over the timing cover had backed out....the one's the motor mount is attached to. In fact the one behind the belt probably would have fell out if not for the belt. retightened them 14mm best i could...wonder do they need thred locker on them?? Anyone else have these bolts come loose?? |
