You'll get a kick out this one.
I don't know if you're old enough to remember but Firestone used to offer a lifetime warranty on car batteries - yes car batteries. I wish I had known about that one - it was probably more than 25 years ago but a fellow club member used to go in every 5 years and get a 'NEW' battery, even after they stopped offering the lifetime to new customers. Firestone had the option of refunding his money also, but choose to honor the lifetime warranty. Now there was customer service. Firestone still offers a lifetime on alignments, with a $15 shop supply fee, that we have on the focus. I have a SEARS lifetime alignment on the antique car that they still honor even though it was also discontinued years ago. Again - customer service (You don't want to know how much of that car has lifetime parts on it that are still honored, 40+years. Another benefit of replacing lifetime parts is keeping in touch with the car and seeing potential problems before you're left on the side of the road). Maybe they still honor my warranties because I always approach them with a smile and a story. Beer doesn't hurt either... lol. Any company has too evolve and modify their business plan over time - if they don't it will be suicide. I don't expect anything to last forever but it's nice to get in on the lifetimes with a company that will stand behind them - especially if you are a long time car owner/collector.

I work full time, and go to school full time. I am in management at UPS (biggest employer in Louisville, KY). I am getting a degree in Computer Information Systems with a average University of Louisville starting pay rate of just over $56K a year. I honestly don't think I'll change my views in any give amount of time.
I think that the differing opinions here also had to do with the generation gaps. I'm 22, I'm guess you're ~40. I may not be 20 years experienced in the working world, but I have been working at least 30 hours a week since sophomore/junior year in high school. Regardless of how I come across, I am not mis/uninformed or a spoiled kid. Everything I get is earned. I'm not implying that you were assuming any of the above, but if you were, it was not correct. Mitch.....
sometimes I put too much out there, in short, I can be a dic-. I apologize if I've crossed the line. I am actually 59, about to chuck the whole thing hopefully, done my time pretty much. I lucked out going into printing, way more than 40 hour weeks but paid extremely well for it. One year of college before I came up with idea of quitting but make the time count as if I was in college. I was in top 5% wage earners way back early '80s through mid '90s and still did almost as well after that until around 2007. I generally made more than my bosses for 25+ years. My son seems to be doing the same, he took software engineering in college but after a year we discussed his future and he went into warehouse and distribution also. Doing extremely well now for non college grad. He now teaches SAP and also is corporate troubleshooter for EchoLab, Inc. at OHL Transportation. There will be that glass ceiling but if you are doing well enough below it you don't need to cross it. I certainly didn't, I turned down management positions more than once, the extra load was not justified by the pay. I stayed just on this side of salary, the salary will always take you to the cleaners in my view. |

This has gotten so far off topic I'm closing this thread. I'm not even going to bother reading the novels y'all have both written.
