Need a little help...

Hello! Long time lurker, first time poster here. I have been shopping around for a Focus for some time now, and have found two at a local carmax and can't come to a conclusion. It is between a 08 SES with 45k miles, and an 09 SE with 19.5K miles.

The dilemma is fairly superficial to be honest. The 09's interior is in better condition (scratches on plastic interior on the earlier car) than the 08's and the miles are amazing. Price is pretty close too (around $600 difference). The problem I am having is that the SES obviously has the better features (Sync system, fog lights etc.) Aaaaand that the 09 is gold...I just...think that I would look like a pimp on a budget driving it. Especially if I would want to do some mods to it.

I am just having a hard time. One part of me is thinking "go for the newer one with waaay less miles", the other side is saying "go for the one with the better trim, better color, better features".

Any suggestions? Any help would be much appreciated.

I would go with the second one personally, their is a good chance that you will not keep the car till it dies, so I would not worry about the milage as much. Color is a very big deal as well, and the blue is awesome. I think the SES is what you will want... Features are awesome :p

Yeah, that is what I am thinking myself. I think the only thing make hesitate is the miles on the vehicle. I do like the SES better.

Don't read into mileage too much. I made that mistake. Bought my focus at a screamin price, it only had like 53k miles on it (and it was ~5 years old when I bought it) and was by far the lowest mileage focus in my price range. 10k miles later, I replaced the engine because the previous owner apparently either a) drag raced it and blew some seals in the engine, leading to massive oil burn and low compression or b) didnt bother to change the oil and totally effed the thing up. Just make sure the car was well taken care of and listen for any weird noises.

Noted. I plan on taking the vehicle I choose to my mechanic despite the 12+ hours they spend on it in their shops. Just in case.

I paid $14k flat for my 2011 with 15k miles. Loaded with everything but a sunroof.
Leather, heated seats and mirrors, mood lights, sync, fog lights

Keep looking!

The automatics in these cars aren't the greatest. I would keep looking for a 5spd. But out of those two, I would take the '08 SES. It looks much better, and has more features.

I don't know how car prices are in your area, but that seems kindof high for what I would want to pay. I would look private party

Welcome,

Definetly take the SES, the price is right for that many miles. I have seen some members here that have SE models buying SES tail lights and other SES items. Save some money and start out with a SES especially with Sync. Also have a trusted mechanic look it over top to bottom, you might be able to get some money off or get something fixed for free if you find it before you buy it. For instance I got new front brakes for my wifes car when we bought it used.

The dark lights aren't on the 2008 SES. It's on the coupes earlier but not till 2011 on the sedan IIRC

I see this car for sale relatively close to your area. Don't know if you are interested in coupes or not
