1st gear rev hang?
I notice when I rev my '10 5sp hard in 1st to maybe 4K rpm and then clutch in for 2nd gear, the rpms sort of hang and don't drop much at all.
Is this normal? It's kind of annoying. I did have a CAI that I took out. The shop said he "reset my computer" after doing it but maybe if I reset the ECU this would get rid of it? I'm guessing just disconnect the negative terminal of the battery for 20 min or so...... Wondering if anyone else experience this rev hang.

"resetting your ECU" - yeah the shop just disconnected your battery for a bit. I have an 05 that doesnt have a drive by wire, my rpms hang too. COmmon on Fords.

Extremely normal on DBW fords. If I put mine in neutral and cost to a stoplight it's idling at 2500RPM.
Our F350 idles at 1500RPM when sitting still. Dealer has always said it's normal.

Yeah it normal especially with the DBW cars. Another thing to note it that the stock flywheel is pretty heavy and will cause the revs to hang some.

DBW does this to reduce emissions...you get a hydrocarbon spike when the butterfly snaps closed VW has tuners out to minimize this im unaware of any for the focus yet but im new to the focus aftermarket so there very well could be one for them also

The hanging revs is purely for emissions reasons. The first gen focus did this also, it has nothing to do with DBW cars. Mainly American cars do this but now also some of the foreign cars do this too now.

Dive by wire is what does this for emission yes they did it other ways in the past im sure but a 2010 has a "slow" close throttle response strictly do to the drive by wire logic used by the controle mod also why i would have to think someone out there offers a tuner to help with this

Anyone? This fast idle, rpm hang business is really getting old. I would love to have a tune that made the engine run correctly. Emissions can't be affected all that much. Hydrocarbon spike? Cats love extra hydrocarbon, that's why they sometimes run rich to keep them lit.
With a tuning device one can always reflash when the time comes. |
