Does anyone know: 1) what the little circle with a slash thru it next to the fuel symbol is? 2) if the compass really works? Mine always indicates N with the arrow on top pointing up.

I think that just means that an indicated NORTH

Hey, dorough -

I'm not exactly sure which symbol you're referring to, do you have a pic? From what I see in your owners manual, it looks like it may be the symbol for avoiding smoking, flames, or sparks. Check out page 11:

In regards to the compass, it should be working. PM me your VIN so I can confirm your Focus is equipped with the latest software.

And while we're at it, are the flower petals supposed to change with driving conditions? I've yet to see anything but all 5 petals.

I received your PM, dorough, thanks! I'm looking into it now.

The flower pedals are part of the EcoMode operation. This system assists the driver in more efficient driving by monitoring: shifting, driving speeds and anticipation of start/stop (traffic conditions). Better economy is displayed by more solid pedals in the flower graphic; the more efficiently you drive, the
more pedals will be earned. Resetting the average fuel economy value will reset the EcoMode also.

• Anticipation: adjusting your vehicle’s speed and the distance to other
vehicles without the need for heavy braking or acceleration will
improve fuel economy.

• Speed: higher speeds use more fuel. Reducing your cruising speed on
open roads will improve fuel economy.

• Shifting: early shifting saves fuel and using the proper gear for a given
speed increases fuel economy.

That symbol is what's called a "slashed zero" and represents the mathematical concept of "average". Basically it's redundant, but I guess they wanted to say "Average Fuel" in both letters and pictures.

I recommend performing a Master Reset on your system:

Note: this will restore settings to factory defaults.

If that doesn't take care of it, please see your dealership.
