That's funny ... when looking back at all the cars I've owned .... their analysis and experience with 'troublespots' has been dead on accurate. I wonder how many detractors would be so negative on CR if they had given the Focus great ratings.
Regarding ratings, they're obviously weighted .... an otherwise great car can easily get a 'not acceptable' if anything safety related has issues, even if 14 of the other 15 categories are good. Their mileage ratings have also been almost exactly what I've gotten in long-term use. Motor Trend and Automobile magazine say the exact same thing about the DCT and MFT, so I guess they have no credibility either .... Anybody who even now continues to maintain that there aren't real problems with the DCT or MFT simply has their head in the sand .... or somewhere else .... REV |

Have you ever seen the reason why they put cars, or anything really, on their "Do Not Recommend List"? They are typically off-the-wall, stupid reasons that have no impact on whether the product is actually good or not. As an example they put the Ford Edge on the "Do Not Buy" list because of the MFT being to complicated to use. Not that it's poorly made, uncomfortable, or unreliable, just that it has a complicated optional feature. If you're going to buy a new car I think the last place you should probably looks is a publication that tests toasters in the same way it tests cars. I don't believe there are problems anymore. After they updated my transmission I haven't had one problem. |

I trust them about as far as I could throw one of their biased and useless "testers". I'll stick to MT, C/D, Inside Line, Evo and sources that actually test a car as a car. Not guys who review toasters in the same magazine.
