Road Trip Advice? (WI to TX)
Leaving Thursday around 8pm. I have a friend down there at reclass school in San Antonio so I'm driving her car down for her, since she's paying for gas, my hotel and my plane ticket back. Which was all cheaper than shipping the car down.
It's a Lancer Ralliart, 2010 I believe. 26,xxx miles. All fluids and whatnot will be checked and topped off if needed. Tires are pretty new. Oil change is good. What am I forgetting? And any advice? This is my first big road trip lol. Kind of nervous about deer and whatnot, just because it's someone else's car. But other than that.. I'm excited. |

Road music lots and lots of road music also comedic cd's also help a lot too when the music gets tiring. Cruise control is your friend. Speed but not excessively, 5 over is usually good anything over that and your taking risk.

Rent some audio books, they make a road trip way more tolerable. Bill Brysons "Home" is a little slow to start but totally entertaining and a learning experience. It's like Reading Rainbow in your car for 12 hours or more, minus the annoying Levar Burton or whatever his name is.

dude download a lot of comedies.. music gets old pretty fast... bluetooth.. as far as deer, not much you can do besides being attentive, and drive carefully in forested areas, dark areas, and stop frequently.. i know we all want to drive straight through, but nothing helps like a good stretch.

I'm definitely gonna look into downloading some comedies. Never even thought about that. And yeah. I'm not going to try to drive straight through. 21 hours straight would be ridiculous if I could even stay awake for it lol.

Always make sure you stop to take a break and stretch, it's important because your body will tire if you do not because of lack of blood flow, also drink your drinks through straws because this creates more oxygen and keeps you awake. I know it sounds stupid but it works

I just did another 6000 mile roadtrip in the old focus CA to MN and back.
During the three day drive back, there were several interstate closures that forced route planning changes. Check the DOT for the states you plan to drive through the day before. I like to stop every 2 hrs, jog around the rest stop to get the blood flowing a bit (I do not normally exercise). Coffee and Monster energy keep you awake, but the caffeine dehydrates you which will make you tired. Drink water or gatorade or something other than just coffee and soda pop. Smartphone is neat in towns, but doesn't work everywhere. |
