It should, but I dont like messing around in tight areas. If I have to contort my arm to get to it, I'd rather just get the tool. But yes, you should be able to get if off by hand. All depends on how good you are at applying force at weird angles lol

get yourself a filter tool... don't just assume its loose enough. I hand tighten mine and next time I have to do it its pretty hard to remove even with the wrench.

the only reason I have to jack mine up is because my arm isn't long enough to reach the plug. otherwise it would be the easiest car I have had to change the oil in.

Same. You ever want a car that's a real PITA to change the oil in? get a Chevy cavalier. I was ecstatic when I saw how easy the oil filter and plug were to access on the fofo

^^ funny you should mention that. the car before I owned the focus was a 99 cavalier. changing the oil filter was kind of tricky. I did it from the top. The only thing about changing the oil on that car I didn't like was that if I wasn't careful with the filter,I would spill oil on the exhaust flex pipe and it would stink for days.

I use two wood ramps I made. They raise the front about 4 inches up. Just enough to do the change.
I made them 14 years ago for my Contour SVT. (back when i was younger!) Now I still change my oil.. at 63 I look kind of funny laying under my car.. But I like changing the oil myself. And the slight angle is not going to be a problem. |
