The lights you speak of are there for visibility and safety reasons. Yes, even the DRLs.
Just because you can see well, doesn't mean everyone else can. I'm glad we have mandatory DRLs here in Canada. I just wish there were DRRLs (DRLs for the rear lights). It's amazing how so many people tend to forget that at dusk, visibility is very difficult due to the low contrasting light. I imagine those staunchly opposed to DRLs are the same ones that lament wearing a helmet while motorcycling. /rant. Back on topic: I too appreciate the multiple bulbs offered, each with their own specific task, whether it be for the front, side, or rear lamps.

Now I wished Ford would somehow design a jammer into our cars to jam cell phone signals for people that are talking on their cell phones without using Bluetooth. (I'm just joking, I know its illegal to jam signals) I hate people the talk or text on their cell phones while driving.

Unfortunatly the general population needs these nannies and having you be more visible at night when your doors are open is a no-brainer since many people get killed each year because they weren't visible. The car companies reduce lawsuits with this and more and more cars have this feature.

I'm just annoyed that Ford skimped on the separate tail and brake lights for the sedan version of the Focus. It doesn't make much sense, and is yet another thing to add to the list of things the sedan never got.
