Unless your ignition has been replaced/modified, you have a transponder in your key.

no openings , it must be molded into the plastic then , my sable has a slightly visible spot where the transponder is , but my focus key doesnt , its a ford key too

Your hey has a transponder, almost every Ford since 2000 (but not all) has a transponder key, for the PATS, passive anti-theft system. ALL Focus models have it, you just may not have noticed it. Some people take the transponder out, tape it inside the steering column near the "O" terminal of the ignition cylinder and buy $2 standard keys as replacements, maybe someone did that to yours. My guess is though, you have never noticed it, lol.

I have the same key fob. However, I had to drill a hole in the tope to find a place that I could put the transponder. I know it would not be very "fun" to undo it, but could you take a picture of where you "taped" the transponder?

I have never done the taping of the transponder near my ignition cylinder. If you take the steering wheel column cover off, you will see a black ring around the ignition tumbler (where the key goes in), it will even have a plug with wires going to it. Tape the transponder on the inside of that and test out a non transponder all metal key. It should work just fine.

I put my transponder right by where the battery sits , you can see it in the picture.

Is your transponder still inside the glass tube that came with it? I broke the glass accidentally when I was getting it out so I just removed it all.
