Odometer Blue led (or whatever color) conversion mod

I want to do this BAD, but I'm afraid I'd destroy something and be screwed. I like to do these project on a "Back-up" set and I can't afford a "back-up" set, so for now I will continue on the rest of my interior lights.

The odometer is super easy. the hardest part is undoing the black clip on the lcd.
Don't try to force it and be patient.

daniel, did you just replace the 74 and 194's? and sand the glass?

How do you remove the clips from the screen? I didn't look at mine yet, but i have the bulbs ready.

You don't sand the glass, there is a sheet of a paper like thing that you separate from the glass.
The black clip on the glass is a little tricky.

To replace bulbs, grab and rotate.

My lights are LED's (if I remember right) and will have to be soldered off and on. I've done some soldering of lights (for my lower HVAC), but if I messed that up I could have replaced for cheaper then a Cluster.

It has channel style grooves and is extremely snug. I used some jeweler's screwdrivers to help and actually chipped the glass very minutely, accidentally

OMG ok, people are getting way to confused over nothing. let me lay it our for you from what I've gathered.

SVT Gage's (I own an SVT) are illuminated by an EL-Glow sheet. NOT LED's. the ONLY bulbs you will ever use on an SVT is for the idiot lights. which are still lit up by a film. I'm almost 100%sure they are all white bulbs.

I'm doing the metal monkey gage swap. now, I'm doing it red. I'd need a #74 RED LED correct?

OR

can I go to my hobby store, Eliminator-RC, and get a 12V red LED, and cram it in the same connector? and if I can, do I need a resistor? I need to know this from someone knowledges please. I'm mainly on FJ, but I get email alerts whenever someone replies here. and I'm going to use a razor and 1000grit sandpaper to be rid of the green.

let me know if anythin I said here is incorrect. I'm not being rude, I'm trying to set the record straight, cause I've read this while thread from front to back and icant get a straight answer and people are getting way too off track thinking this tips the tach color and somehow it magically changes the kmph color or somethin stupid.
