All of these clunking issues make me realize just how complex these cars are. My mom's 2002 Escape started clunking. Wheel bearings, strut mounts, and struts were only 2 years old (I replaced them but they were cheap parts).

I replaced the sway bar links (usually the clunking culprit), outer tie rod ends (also bad...), ball joints (boots were destroyed), and even the intermediate shaft + half shaft (CV axle and intermediate shaft bearing were both bad).

Still clunked. I guess it's probably the strut or the mount even though they were only used for 1-2 years. I just gave up and said "It's annoying, but it shouldn't fall apart when you drive it."

Huge favor to ask since you have a 13, if at all possible can you look under front fender for the springs part code and color tag? Ford says they supposedly started using only the TSB springs (BV6Z 5310) but I really doubt it as their parts sites list the BV61 5310..

well, thanks all for the info and assist... as i don't want to tempt fate i think, for now at least until ford can figure a fix for the clunk, i will stick w/ the stock SEL suspension bits. They aren't as nice as the Ti but they aren't that bad and mine, at least, don't clunk.
