Hey, rather than bragging about your great gas mileage, how about being helpful and giving the OP the information he asked for? Note that the OP was VERY clear about what info he wanted, and that it should only include HIGHWAY mileage. Quote:

I'm not sure why your saying there's a huge difference between 65 and 70. As you state your 65 mph number, and so does the post directly under yours. They're both lower than mine, that's why I was questioning why yours is lower.
As far as what the OP asked 2012 SE 5DR Sport Package DCT Mostly flat driving as I live in the Chicago area. Car has about 3,000 miles on it now, but it's been the same ever since I got the car. I use 87 gas. No need to be stand offish. But, the city mileage is where this car really suffers IMO. |

I've only done a purely highway tank once, and it was when the car had ~800 miles on it. I'm now up to 2,450 miles and the mileage seems like it may have improved a bit. I've used 93 octane from day one (I don't think it does jack for mileage, but use it because I believe it improves drivability and performance on these cars.).
-2012 -5MT -Varied, with some very steep hills thrown in for part of the trip. ~75 mph -38 psi/36 psi F/R, IIRC -33.5 mpg

There's part of your answer--that will make a 2 MPG difference compared to the MTX-75. Another factor is that, in the city, you are probably driving some miles in the "sweet spot" for MPG--at lower speeds around 40-50MPH. Everyone's "mixed" driving is different. That's probably why the OP asked for highway MPG only--to eliminate the highly variable characteristics of city/mixed driving. If everyone provided their mixed MPG as you have, we wouldn't have data that can be directly compared. Quote:

I'm not sure how I failed to provide the information the OP requested. And yes I didn't reset my MPG computer on the highway, yet I still got 44 MPG so if anything it would have been higher. I struggle getting anything more than 25 MPG around town so that would skew my numbers down ever so slightly towards the conservative side.

I thought his instructions were fairly easy to follow...

Get on the highway, set cruise, reset your MPG average, and drive for several miles. No teleportation needed.

Did as you said this morning with a 15mph crosswind, and very mild hills (1-2% grade) for about 10 miles. I averaged 40 mpg at 65 mph (cruise control) with my roof rack on.

>40 mpg
Got 42.1 average mpg fuel economy after driving home from work, without heavy traffic. Approx 20 miles, averaging about 65 mph, and included the 1 1/2 miles of surface streets from the freeway to home.
SE Sport with automatic. |
