2002 Focus engine intermitant surge on cold start up
Hello, I have a 2002 Focus Zx5 with a DOHC 2.0 engine. I did a search but can't find my exact problem. Sometimes not always on a cold start the engine will surge up and down and idle low. I have cleaned the throttle body and have already replaced the coil pack and spark plugs and wires, fuel filter. It doesn't seem to be ignition related but fuel delivery problem. It will last a couple minutes then clear up, after that it runs fine and restarts are okay. It is only on a cold start and not all the time. No check engine light on. Thanks for any help.

First off, welcome to Focus Fanatics!
Second, how high are the RPM's going, and how long do they stay there? Up here in WA, there is no such thing as a warm start, its always cold out. My engine typically starts at around 1200 RPMs, then settles at about 750 |

It idles very low then tries to go up but drops to a point I have to keep it going with my foot so as not to stall. When I raise the rom you can still feel the roughness then it stabalizes and its good to go. The engine doesn't appear to load up just a very unstable idle to part throttle.
