No because 2nd opinions come with a diagnostic fee! I have never dealt with a dealership like this so I am not in a hurry to go through it again. I will fix it myself, sell it and get a Honda.

I would try going to another dealership and speak to the manager there. Address the situation and see if they will check it out for you. It is always worth a try. If not, there are plenty of local mechanics that will diagnosis for free, if you give them a call. Just my 2 cents.

So I get a response from Ford's solutions center saying that rough uneven idle is a normal characteristic of this car! What a company! This will be my last Ford product!

From discussion I've seen here, and my experience with the car, I would agree with Ford. What do you mean by "rolling idle" issue, BTW?

All I can say is that the car used to idle evenly at about 700rpm. Now it will idle there and then dip 200rpm for a second or two speed up to 750-800 then settle back down for 10-30 seconds and repeat. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. Since I am getting no more help from the dealership or Ford I plan on cleaning the throttle body once I get the special cleaner from ford and see if that helps. Next will be replacement of the MAF sensor. If that doesn't do it I will research the stepper motor or what ever else I can find for suggestions.

You're right--that's not normal. I thought you were just referring to rough idle, not RPM fluctuation. I have noticed some fluctuation in mine at higher altitudes (7000ft+), but that obviously shouldn't affect you in the midwest.

Nobody can tell me this is normal, including Ford. I had a loaner - albeit with the auto and it didn't idle like this, even unloaded.
1) Normal means it always does it. Mine does not always idle like this. 2) Normal means all cars do it. My loaner did not. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RWmDd...ature=youtu.be

I have given up on getting help! Did a lot of research so the next thing to check is a lower motor mount that can get stones lodged into it. Thanks for your reply.

Took my Focus to a second dealer to demonstrate the rough idle and the service advisor knew immediately that it was not normal.
Dropping off the car early next week to see what they can find. |
