Don't do it if your looking for big performance gains. Very negligible difference really. I've done this swap on a Fox body Mustang. Total waste of time and money IMHO.
Now if you want to do it for looks. Go for it. But prepare to pay big $$$. |

There's a whole thread about this and I tried to add some insights to it - I'm one of the people on here who's interested in such a conversion and I'm still looking into whether or not it's possible - see this:

I think this set-up is definitely possible - time and research could help make it happen and less inexpensive
REPOST - maybe this might get some more attention: REAR DISC BRAKE SET UP: ![]() 1 - Rotors - $80 (pair) 2/3 - Hubs Assemblies - $150 (pair) 4 - Backing Plates - $32 (pair) 5 - Backing Plate Bolts - $9 (for 8) 6 - Calipers - $170 (pair) 7 - Caliper Bleeders - $8 (pair) 8 - Caliper Hardware - $20 (pair) 9 - Caliper Support - $50 (pair) 10 - Caliper Support Bolts - $4 (for 8) 11- Brake Pads - $44 (set) 12 - Brake Springs - $16 (pair) 13 - ABS Sensor - $20 (pair) - if not compatible with current 14 - Brake Hoes - $22 (pair) - if not compatible with current 15/16 - Brake Tube and Line - $30 (set) if not compatible with current So the total would be definitely be +/-$650 from Ford... REAR DRUMS SET UP:

The point of this thread is to figure if someone's done, would someone attempt it, and could this become an option that others would be interested in. Instead of criticizing and shutting down the idea of a "rear brake conversion", why not give positive constructive feedback, share knowledge, pictures or anything that would contribute to making happen? Personally, my Rear Drums work fine but I want Rear Discs - simple. Don't our stock engines, transmissions and suspensions work just fine as-is??? Why do we seek things like intakes, exhausts, springs, wheels, and big brake kits? Because we WANT them and we hope that someone out there will break "the norm" (<-- no pun intended) and open the doors for others...

Good stuff - I'm planning the conversion too; just gathering up funds and info - Let's share notes and try to keep this thread alive!
I'm looking for some more detailed comparisons... side by side images, better diagrams (like the ones from the service manuals) - My main questions is: Are the lines/hoses compatible or exchangeable between... For example, I have a 5-Speed SE and I'm curious to know if my e-brake cable will still work with the discs or will I need to replace that? etc.

You do realize that 80% of your breaking is at the front....just upgrade the front pads...you will see bigger results than if you spend $700 bucks
I was in the same boat as you...no rear disc hatch 5 speed within 350 miles of where I lived...PLENTY IN auto...i'll give up rear disc before I give up a manual
