Evaporator cleaning

I just returned from the dealership, and they said they recomend an evaporator cleaning. When I asked how they did it the guy said they drill a hole into the evaporator and fill it with a cleaning foam. That seemed a little weird to me so I'm wondering, has anyone here had it done or done it themselves? If so what all is entailed in the job? I have a 2010 with 50k on it

They soak the coils with foam, the foam drips off and evaporates. There were removable panels to get to the one at work. My guess is they need to drill a hole because the box on the focus is too small for a removable panel and/or not easily accessible.

Are you getting odor from your vents? The foam is more of a fungicide to kill bacteria and mold growing in the evaporator.
If you are not getting any odor then you do not need it.
I try to avoid running the A/C on recirculating air when I can. I think it helps keep it drier to run outside air thru.
