Are you redlining every gear and cruising at 90+? something really has to be wrong to do that poor. I think the worst ive seen in my 07 is 24mpg, that was in super crappy/cold snow and getting stuck in hours of traffic due to the snow.

See, that's what you would think. But, for one, automatic and two, average 70 cruising. Actually at 60mph it's worse. I've had a head job for the valves, replaced imrc tps and few other things here and there. Not one thing has made a difference in mileage. Rarely get a cel. The mileage has been like this since I bought it. But no one believed me it was so bad. I have to fill up at least twice a week. Being a student doesn't make it any easier.

i guess my 28 mpg is where it should be. not sure how anyone is getting 40. thats 10 more than the sticker says when new.. on highway.

well i wouldnt take the OP's findings too seriously... its only based on 100miles of highway driving, hardly an average. He needs to compute his average mpg over several tanks worth of gas. I've seen pics of the '12's getting 60+mpg, they may be coasting down a hill in neutral but they still got that mpg, however brief it happened to be lol


Fuelly is a much beer gauge of average mpg for any car. Based on over 600,000 miles, the 2001 Focus has an average of 28.3, so you are actually doing pretty well with your mpg's

I do 28 in my stock ZETEC. About 120k on the motor, 257k on the rest. Sticker was 30 under EPAs "perfect" driving conditions so 28 is well within where it should be.

The 40 I did was over 430ish miles. 350 miles flat highway, 6 miles of 6% upgrade 30 miles of rolling hills, 5 miles of 5% downgrade and 40 miles of freeway slightly down hill.

Didn't even try to do it either and it was with my old motor that had a blow head gasket and 200k+ miles on it.

I own two 2001 ZX3's with the Ztec engines. Bought the first one for my son when he was looking for a sporty looking but, economical first car. I was so impressed with this little car, I looked for another one for myself. Both are pretty consistent at 27MPG local and 35-36MPG on the highway. One has 109,000 miles the other has 65,000. Love this little car

Well after driving the car around I'm getting 31.2 mpg in town and 49.6 highway. The worst I got so far was 29.2 and that was running the snot out of it! I must say I love this car!
