The shorter that awesome pause is, the faster the transmission is selecting a gear for you. Which in turn means the quicker you're putting power down to the pavement, which means you win the race.
You don't want that awesome pause, it's actually a quick moment when the car is not gaining any forward momentum. |

I've driven a few DCTs and none impressed me and no matter how people try to say it's a manual it simply isn't and doesn't allow gear changes when the driver wants to as it acts like it knows better thus isn't a manual.

Of course if this was at the drag strip and you lost well then fair's fair, but on the street its a bad idea. When the DCT has the next gear preselected and ready to go the changes are virtually instantaneous even when run to redline. Maybe its just that my car has worked with no issues from the gearbox, but I actually like the DCT much more than Ford's lack luster torque converter automatics. Although if the normal Focus had been available with a 6 speed manual with similar gear ratios I might have gone with it over the DCT, but since it did not and the 5MT had the same gear ratios as my last car which was 18 year old I wasn't as enthused about that prospect as good as the MTX75 is. I like having the engine only needing to spin at 2600 rpm at 70 and about 3000 at 80 mph vs 3000 at 70 and closer to 3500-4000 at 80 in the 5MT. |

Actually my engine turns at 3400 at 80mph and 2900 at 70mph so it's not like the DCT so the diff is only a few hundred RPM.

A 6th gear would be a VERY welcome addition to the manual trans. Seems like the motor has enough power to pull the car along at speed with a drop to the 2300-2500 range instead of the 2900-3000 range it lives at now on the freeway. |
