I've driven on all sorts of rubber and always had agressive rubber on my fun cars and the Conti DWS really isn't too bad a compromise and I've pushed them quite hard and while they do break loose before a dedicated summer tire they were quite predictable and in the rain they have handled very good. The Focus is mostly my wife's driver and she never will get even close to the limits of the DWS and I wanted something that suits her needs more than mine and I wanted something that will last a while.
Alot of local WRX guys run the DWS in the winter and really like them but for dry grip the DW have that covered and aren't overpriced.

Yea, they are the same. Now I believe you have Super Sports, Pilot Sport 3s, and if you're insane the PAX tires.

One thing that people tend to overlook is the added safety that these 18" ultra-high performance summer tires bring in terms of reduced braking distance and increased evasive abilities. Both are very useful capabilities in avoiding accidents. Also that particular Michelin tire is light weight (22.1 lbs) and constructed with Michelin's "Green X" low rolling resistance rubber so you're not going to give up much if anything in rolling resistance to another Focus tire with less performance.

I just installed four new Bridgestone Blizzak WS-70 tires on my Fofo. I went with the 215/50x17" size and bought some inexpensive 17" aluminum wheels too. The Blizzaks were $166 each at a local Discount Tire, same price as tirerack.com. In this size they're an inch narrower in tread width and one tenth of an inch taller (outer diameter) than the stock 18" Pilot Sport 3s. It's too early for a winter evaluation but so far these tires are great. They're quiet for full-on studless winter tires and corner pretty decently on wet and dry and leaf covered leaf-peeping roads in the 40s-50s F temperature range.

I'm getting the Bridgestone Potenza RE970AS too from the Firestone store. $943.77 total, w road hazard, balance and tax. I'm hoping to sell the michelin's for $600.
