2010 focus se sedan: problem with door locks

Hello all,

My wife's focus is having a bit of an issue around 40k miles. We get into the car after meeting with some friends one night and the door locks have somehow malfunctioned. When we press the unlock button on the door, absolutely nothing happens; but when we press the lock button it magically unlocks the doors. Its the same on both driver and passenger side doors.

Hopefully its an easy fix, because its out of its bumper to bumper warranty and i dont want to take it to the dealer. Any ideas?

Thanks.

Moved to General Technical Chat.

You should reset the key fob, but I've forgotten how to do that. Did you try the other key fob to see if it does the same thing? It might simply be a problem with that fob.

Im referring to the switches located on the door within the car. The key fob works just fine.

oooooh, that's different entirely. Is it just the driver's side or both sides?

oh, lack of reading comprehension there, sorry. Yes, you have a problem, most likely in the driver's side switch. I recommend removing the driver's side switch, and checking it. Most likely you lost a wire there. It could be anywhere, but I'd check there first because the driver's side is what takes the most abuse, and usually problems are at the switches not the wiring in between. Now if you've recently had an electronics upgrade- like GPS hardwired, or new radio, that might be a good place to look for clues.

I would pull on the wires going into the connector, and also make sure that there is not something obvious wrong with the switch itself.

Hi behr8211,

Since you appear to be a DIY kind of person, I would recommend checking out www.FordParts.com. You'll be able to order Ford-approved parts for any DIY project you choose to take on.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me via PM.

Thanks,
Crystal
