What do you guys think about this one?

This is demonstration vehicle - how bad that could be?

Just don't be alarmed about prices - they are higher here in Canada. Plus I'll be paying 13% tax to that sticker price + all dealer fees (around $500-700).

Just for comparison reasons here in Canada new 2013 HB titanium comes to more than $34.000 Canadian dollars. Which is even slightly more in US dollars. Sigh. I could have bought for that money in USA 2010 BMW 528xi AWD sedan with 25K miles certified pre-owned with all possible options installed for around $32-33K and still had some money left after.

When you test drive the Focus, get it into bumper to bumper traffic when you inch slowly, that's when my shuddering got really bad.

Also be one the look out if the TSB has been done. Make a note of when it was done what the mileage was when it was done. The shuddering on mine came back after about 4000 kms.

Car was built on 3/19/2012 and has 8500 km, no listed outstanding service items on www.etis.ford.com or oasis.

But my concern is what sort of demonstration use, was it used by the dealer as a shuttle, or by a dealership manager, etc.

That's not too bad, you might be able to haggle it down to about 16-15.

I might be wrong, but this one might not have the keyless fob

Its an SE 203A winter without sport package, its basically a loaded SE minus alloy wheels, disk brakes, or select shift.

It should come with two IKT fobs (Integrated Key Fobs) as its not an S.

Wow - I didn't know that kind of website existed - Thanks! It's very useful to check by VIN each car.

You get all the info on the car, down to the specific options it originally came with.

I searched forum and goggled but it's really hard to read all pages of big threads about MFT and SYNC and several others regarding DCT so please help me decide and make a correct choice.
I'm looking to buy used 2012 (I know most of issues have been fixed in 2013, but used 2013 are rare and much more expensive yet) Focus with DCT, but I'm not sure of several things. Please advice what are your thoughts and opinions regarding the following issues:

1. When exactly Ford fixed DCT issue - meaning starting from what date (month) of production should I look for a used Focus and how to check that date (VIN or else)? Are all cars affected and how to check it during test drive?

2. I would prefer Titanium, due to its intelligent access without a key, 17'' tires, rear view camera with rear/front park control, optional Navigation and winter package, BUT what about MFT - can it at least work with no issues with rear view camera and navigation or these have problems too, since they are used via MFT?

3. What about SYNC - it has problems too? All I need is BT phone to be able to call and answer handsfree and play some songs via USB.

4. Will Ford continue to support/update MFT and SYNC untill most of bugs are fixed or we are already left alone?

P.S. I'm looking for a sedan (white, silver or grey) preferably Titanium, but can settle for SEL, SE or even S if you guys would advice me to do so. In this case I would fit car with aftermarket rear view camera, remote start, intelligent access key e.t.c. but it will be pain in the ars

Thank you.
For what it's worth here is my advice.
I too wanted a car with all the options. Having not had one in the past, and seeing the new focus I got sucked in. Mistake number 1.

Looking at your list, I have had issues with every point you make. So have many other owners.

1. DCT slipped into neutral for no reason while driving at 40mph. That is simply dangerous. Ford has no explanation or resolution for any of the DCT issues people are facing.

2. MFT It looks cool, but that's where it ends. Sometimes mine will connect to bluetooth, other times not. Sometimes it will stream music from the bluetooth but I cannot make a phone call. It will randomly reboot itself. It will lock up. Metadata does not always display for song info. It returns to radio even if you previously had another input selected, for no reason. GPS is slow when trying to enter addresses. Basically this thing has a mind of its own and is useless.

3. Sync system..works, if you can get it to recognize your voice.

As for for support...good luck. Many of us here have waited patiently for fixes updates, TSB's etc....and we are still waiting.

I have a Titanium too. Other issues I have had are:
1. Silver trim moulding on rear door came off. They replaced it but it does not line up with the rest of the trim.
2. Hood touches front light on passenger side.
3. Rear taillight was scraping on paint--fixed this myself.
4. Grinding "egg beater noise" when car changes from 1-2. No fix
5. Headliner glue--still not fixed.
6. Keyless touch entry--does not work. I can stand at my door trying to open it with the key right next to it and it will not open. Other times it works fine.

So what seemed like a great car in the beginning is now nothing more than heap of junk.

About 3 months back we needed a second car. We purchased a Mazda 3 i Touring skyactiv. It is a base model and only has bluetooth.

If I had it to do again, I would without doubt by another Mazda. Not one rattle or creek. No gadgetry issues. No Tranny issues and the car rides like it is on rails.

As for the MFT, in my Mazda, I dock my phone, which has, GPS, Music, Phone, Voice Commands....basically an MFT...go figure.

DO YOURSELF A FAVOR...DO NOT GET SUCKED IN BY ALL THE COOL GADGETS. It would be different if they all worked, but they don't, and sooner or later you will have issues....with no resolution in sight.

PS...these are just my opinions and what I have experienced with this car, but I also know I am not alone.

Good Luck

I'd also like to add, don't let all the issues here scare you.

People here make the mistake of thinking they represent the majority of owners in amount of problems. We don't.

We are basically the 1%.

If these issues on the Internet were actually indicative of real problems, Volkswagen certainly wouldn't still be in business cause the Internet would have you believe that VW only makes crappy cars that have electrical issues and break every 200 miles.

Same with this Focus. Yes there will be problems, no it's really not that wide spread. People who have issues just need to feel special and talk the loudest whereas those like me who didn't have issues are happily staying quiet cause we have nothing to complain about.
