So it's built into the tank... or the fuel pump assembly? Because if the assembly is accessible through the back seat that's not to terrible. Tank is another story because I definitely don't have the resources to drop the tank off.

They could have also done it to reduce part counts, lower part counts usually means lower manufacturing costs.

With cars isn't the pump/pickup assembly IN the tank? You have to understand with this car there are 2 pumps... on in the tank and one on the engine... the one on the engine is an extremely high pressure pump to atomize the fuel due to direct injection.

A quick look in the Ford parts manual shows no filter at all, which is standard on all focus's post 2006 apparently... I would assume we have a screen on the pump assembly itself in the tank, everytime you turn off the car the flow would stop and the screen would likely clean off... Modern fuel is filtered at the pump so that's likely why all manufacturers are going to this system... I think the pump is accessible if you remove the rear seat... there should be a cover in there.

Yes. But on some older cars the pump in the tank is easily accessible by removing the back seats. I was wondering if it could be housed in there rather than the tank itself.

most of the ford E series and F series already got this feature. the concept of the method is most gas stations have filtered gas. This being the case the Filter is supposed to last as long as the fuel pump. So when the fuel pump fails your due for a filter.

my suggestion.. dont go looking for cheap gas. go find a cheveron or shell (best clean gas ive used)

Can anyone confirm that we are able to access the fuel pump assembly by removing the rear seats and carpet?

As others have stated, only use top tier gasoline and don't worry about it.
