Mostly ignorance. Second possibility is that they're saving Ford money (I know Ford pays the dealer back, so it's a weird franchisee-esque relationship) - but I'd like to think that wasn't their mindset.

It's a really bizarre smell! It does kinda have a chlorine-ish hint to it but it's honestly the weirdest smell I've ever come across. It's kind of like an industrial cleaner, the kind you'd have to apply with gloves and glasses or something! I know I'm probably not describing it well but I will tell you it's nothing like new car smell...

And you can count me as one who is happy you are posting. For those of us with problems that were not or are not being addressed, posts like these are extremely helpful. I can only speak for myself when I say $22k is a great deal of money to my family and when I spend this much money I expect a product that functions properly. And when it doesn't function properly I don't want to hear BS.

I am with you,,,, I really like my Focus(expcept trans issue) but think Ford should step up like Honda & VW did years back and warranty trans for 100k miles unlimted years if they feel confident in the product,,,,MJB

If Ford has confidence in their own automobiles as designed and released to paying customers, and if Ford appreciates customers, such a warranty would only ensure confidence and loyalty.

Still, the next time there's a perceived problem with the domestic auto industry, a politician need only drum up some jingoism to get people to "buy American", even if the cars themselves are increasingly made everywhere else but merely sold here... The concept "vote with you wallet" only works when there's no competitor so large that a handful of people not voting with their wallet will make no difference, and doubly so when said company takes taxpayer-funded subsidy (corporate welfare, not bailouts, TARP, Operation Twist, etc, etc, etc...) In our "free market", there is no large company that is not taking money to line the CxO's pockets with... please forgive my cynicism, I have not yet had a chance to drink my quart of coffee today...

Crystal - I have a 2013 Ford Focus with the click click whir problem along with many others. The noise occurs after you open and close the drivers door with Ignition Off and continues for 3 minutes about 21 times. There is a video on youtube that can be seen here:

I have taken the car to my dealer twice and they say there is no fix at present and that Ford service "Should not attempt repair." . Question is there further news on a fix that you may know about or can find out about. There are many that are leery of buying a Focus due to this problem. I know 2 persons with a Focus and they supposedly do not have the problem????
