Both cars will be expensive to maintain compared to Civics and Corollas. Be ready to pay higher prices for oil changes, brakes, tires, recommended service, etc. Winter tires/wheels are a must. The GTI does have extremely expensive 40K service, especially if you go with a DSG.

It has a more powerful engine and revised suspension.
No duh it will be more expensive on maintenance.
I'd also point out that Honda and Toyota aren't even competitors in this market. The Si? Please. Hardly. It may be cheaper but the Veloster Turbo walks all over it.
