I also know state law will only allow 35% or lighter. My question is, if I went with a 20-25% tint, would there be a big difference that a cop would easily be able to know its too dark. Ideally I want something darker then 35% however don't want it so dark a cop can't see in and know just by looking that it is illegal. Any suggestions as to what percentage I should get done?
The difference between 35% and 20% is pretty big but it's a fairly low risk, depending on where you live.

Here in Ohio the law states 50% for the front 2 windows, and no law on the rest except for only allowed a 7" strip on the windshield. I have 12% all around (including strip on windshield) and I've sat next to cops at many lights, driven by cops, and even had multiple cops say the car looked good with the tint when I was pumping gas or something.

Most of the time the only reason you'd get a ticket for tint on the windows is if you're already pulled over for something more serious. If you get pulled over for going 60 in a 35 they're going to be pissed and probably ticket the windows too. The chances of getting pulled over *just* because of the windows is very slim.

Tinted Rear Window Pic

Can anybody post a pic of their rear window on a 5-door 2013 Focus with the window down so it shows how close the tint is to the edge of the glass? I had my car done and they left about a half inch gap on the back edge. Is that necessary or did I get a bad tint job?
Thanks
Mary

Should only be a couple of millimeters from the edge.

I have 20% all around and 15% on the rear and sunroof.

If you ever get pulled over just roll the windows down on the side the cop is coming up on and have all your stuff in hand and on the wheel and I doubt the cop would notice the tint.

There's barely any room from the tint to the edge of the windows on my Focus, got 35% all way around

I always go legal on the darkness. I do 35% front and 15% rear, front strip and sunroof.

The front strip I always do much wider. The focus is the widest I have ever done since it is such a tall window compared to my previous vehicles.

That strip is still well above eye level for me. I could have went a inch or two more. I told my guy to go to the bottom of the rear view mirror because I hate looking at a black spot in the middle of the window due to the base of the rearview mirror.

I went with 13% and I have never had a cop say anything about it. I would have went with 5% like on my truck but my wife said she didn't want it as dark.

13% is good semi difficult to see in and easy to see out off, even at night.

I have a friend who has been pulled over multiple times for 20% all around. I went with 35/20 because it's overtly obvious difference in shade.

As long as you have your windows down before the officer walks up to your car you'll be fine. I used to work for the sheriffs dept.
