Have you driven a skyactiv?

Several .... they were nice cars ... as all 3's are ... I drove them when I was purchasing the Focus this spring, as well as VW TDI Jettas and Golfs ... both with and without the dual clutch trans.

In the end ... I was really impressed ... and I mean ... REALLY .... impressed .... with the Focus's handling and road manners. I had done a fair amount of research on the cars ... which is why I decided on the manual trans over the DCT, and the standard stereo option rather than Sync or MFT.

Unfortunately .... I didn't come across the suspension issues in my research .... my fault, and now I have to live with it unless Ford finally fixes it once and for all, which as of now ... seems unlikely IMO.

Regarding the youtube video ... if the operator isn't intentionally doing that with the throttle ... clearly something is wrong with that transmission .... which as many here are apt to say ... can happen with any mechanical item ... every now and then. Also ... regarding the forum link above the youtube link. It seems that once the trans was reprogrammed it was fine ... I didn't read all three pages, though.

At least you have driven both.

They should just replace it with the ST suspension, that doesn't have any issues and is a few hundred in parts.

I agree DA ... I bet they spent 3 or 4 times 'a few hundred dollars in parts and labor' with that ineffective TSB that they applied to both sides of my car, and then the 4 wheel alignment that I insisted upon, and know that they did ... because I have the data from the alignment.

It would be nice to know exactly which part(s) resolves the problem. I think Zillion replaced a bunch of stuff at the same time, so it's more difficult to isolate the 'problem solving part' since multiple things were done at the same time. Although it could certainly be a combination of parts that resolved the issue.

I'm not letting them touch my car again until they have a proven solution ... if that ever happens.

The original reason I went with my Focus is that I could get a manual transmission and sunroof combo (in 2012 could not get Mazda Skyactiv manual with sunroof). Then I fell in love with my Focus way more than I expected (thought it would be a good car, but turned out to be a great car).

Now that I need to buy a new car, I'm torn between the 2013 Mazda3 and 2013 Focus. I'm between:
  • Focus SE w/ Winter Pack and Moonroof
  • SE w/ 201A, Winter Pack, and Moonroof
  • Mazda3 iGrand Touring (standard with heated seats, moonroof, voice activation similar to sync, etc)

With the SE I lose rear disc brakes (much debated, mainly want them for servicing myself, especially with how important the e-brake is with a manual), but I get all the creature comforts like heated seats (winter pack), blind spot mirrors, cheaper price, fold flat seats, etc. This is the cheapest of the options by about $2k.

The SE with 201A is virtually the same as the Mazda3 I'm looking at (both have leather, rear disc, etc etc), but the Mazda gives me a few extras like upgraded Bose sound (I would not be getting the MFT/Sony pack on the Focus), Mazda suspension/driving dynamics/steering feel, in-dash Nav (a feature I would probably never use), and probably 1-2MPG better.

BUT the Mazda dealerships where I live really don't want to negotiate price, so with the current Focus rebates, etc, the SE 201A is at least $3k cheaper (assuming I get lucky and can negotiate ~1000 off a Mazda).

Am I crazy for not being able to decide which one? 3k buys a lot of suspension/speaker/etc upgrades, but I don't think I can upgrade the steering feel (the Focus has good feel, but the Mazda is still better). Am I crazy? It just seems so hard to choose since they are virtually the same car...

P.S. Yes, I expect all of you to recommend the Focus because this is a Focus forum.

Getting back on topic, I'm very interested in finding out what you decide on and then a few pics for good measure!
