I'm sure no one is beating up on mustangs, but the focus is rather zippy compared to other cars in its class/league

I agree completely. I have a 2012 Mustang GT, and while it would soundly embarrass my brand new 2012 Focus 5 speed in a race even if I started the Mustang in 3rd gear, the Focus is still tons of fun in many other ways and is worlds better driving and more powerful than my old Honda Civic that just got totaled. It is plenty zippy around town and has no problem passing on country roads. It's also way easier to drive smoothly than the Mustang. Anyone who has ever driven an MT82 equipped manual transmission Mustang knows they are challenging cars to drive smoothly and can kinda wear on you in heavy traffic. Sometimes you just want an easy, pleasant drive, and the Focus definitely does that terrifically. This is one of the best manuals I've ever driven and probably the best overall car, too.

One way it definitely beats up on the Mustang is in fuel economy, though. It nearly doubles what I average in my GT.

Here are a couple pics of the new ride.

The wife and I just took my car on a trip to Crater Lake. We did 350 miles round trip in one day and the car was perfect. From sea level to over 6,000ft she didn't miss a beat. The satellite radio was great for entertainment and she averaged over 30mpg on the trip. Here's a pic.

That color is brilliant, and looks SO clean with the 5 spokes.

Well, I think I'm getting my first focus on Monday. Went in to the dealer today and they are trying to bring it in from another dealership one province over.

Kind of disappointed in the process, though. I originally wanted a 2013 and was going to factory-order this month since the employee pricing deal is on right now (which means about $2700 off the price of my car). However, the interest rates are 4.99% for 72 months. So I thought I'd get a 2012 instead since I can get 0% on 72 months, which saves about $5,000. But the sales manager really tried to pressure me into taking higher interest on a new car (and also somehow not getting the employee pricing), I felt pretty insulted. My sales guy was nice, but the manager was condescending, and really tried to pressure me into not ordering from the other dealership. In my head I was like "buddy, with the internet the way it is, I already know I'm getting hosed in Canada since the same car is $4000 cheaper in the US, so don't try to rip me off further!"

But I held my ground and they are getting back to me monday. I hope to sign the papers then!

It's a 2012 Titanium (Yellow Blaze) hatchback, leather interior, parking package, etc. I wanted to get most of the features (don't really need navigation though). So I am happy, if they can get it in. He hinted they were going to try and charge me $1500 extra for ordering it though. That seems fishy, and I don't trust this manager. I have a car I am ok with right now, so I am in no hurry, so if they try and ruin the deal I'm just going to walk away. I have never had a positive experience with a car dealer.

But I hope I can get it!

Not really. Same class vehicles. My friend bought a new Dart a few weeks back and my Focus is quicker. Also compared to my old Sunfire and a few Neons on my drive today my stock Focus might as well have been a F1 car.

I consider 16 second cars kinda slow when my 20 year old Geo Storm GSI ran the same 1/4 as a new Focus and even a RAV4 will run a high 14 which is where cars get kinda quick and the comepetition becomes more focused.

My first post, and here is my Candy Red SEL purchased August 14th. Only my second `brand new` car in 34 years of driving (my first was back in 1990). I look forward to driving her every single day.

Here she is with her MagnetBra

I failed my first post :( - my images from Flickr dont show.. Any ideas why?
