I have the manual SE sport package and yes i have the crazy hole.
I stuck a pile of CD-R in it. They stay there..so i am satisfied.
But as soon as i saw the heading, i KNEW it was about the crazy side pocket.

Ya i have the manual SEL and no pocket, im presuming its because of the hand brake. So my question to those that have the pocket is where is your park brake if its not to the left of the gear selector?

The cars with the little slot also have the little handbrake lever further back on the same side afaik. That's opposed to the large hand brake lever on the SEL/Ti center console on the 2012, or the SE appearance and Ti center console on the 2013s.

Heated seats, as in the ST3, seem to call for the console with the handbrake forward, and thus no little cubby.

Nice idea on the opener.

I have heated seats and the cubby on my SE.

Hm, no easy rule then. Where do they put the seat heater controls on the console with the cubby and rear brake?

Looks like someone took their console apart previously.

I think the crazy hole is cool. Lots of them.... little ones next to rear seats, etc. They could have just put plain moldings on, but instead tossed some crazy holes to hold random stuff. Gives it more character.

The heated seat controls in the SE Sport are on both sides next to the 12v outlet on the center console:
