I was looking for a way to force the update again but ran out of time.

Out of curiosity, why on earth would the IPC act as a gateway between the APIM and HVAC module? I am assuming you have schematics or some kind of inside knowledge on this based on your comment.

There are 3 can buses: HS-CAN (High Speed), MS-CAN (Medium Speed), and I-CAN (Infotainment).

There are 2 gateway modules: BCM (HS-CAN <> MS-CAN) and the IPC (MS-CAN <> I-CAN).

The service manual is very clear that the IPC is used as a gateway for communication between the APIM and the HVAC.

However, I don't know exactly why it was done this way considering that the APIM is the only module in the car that is connected to all 3 buses directly.

On another note, I found it funny that when I contacted SYNC about not being able to download the update the first time (when it was available to download), they told me to not do so.

Long story short, I forgot how to download the update (because I have a MAC and don't have "ActiveX" installed obviously, but I remembered and figured it out then d/l-ed it). So a day later I get this e-mail as a response (after they pulled it offline):

"Thank you for your email in regards to status checker tool.

The status checker will always display on your customize and update page. It is there in case we cannot verify the version of SYNC in your vehicle. Please disregard that option. No need to attempt download.

They told me not to bother downloading it, and since then have pulled it off the site obviously. Just funny.

So if I take my car in 3 times now and they can't update can I claim lemon law?

Talked to Ford yesterday about the bunk update. They told me that it is a known issue and to go to my dealership. I made sure that my displeasure with that situation was well communicated.

Eh, I was having a couple of beers last night and finally decided "What the Hell! Let's give it a try." I did manage to download it yesterday before it was pulled. I figured if it screwed up I could always run to the dealer over the weekend.

Guess I got lucky. Climate quad buttons still work (including the fake little LEDs) and corner tab shows temp. I did disconnect my iPod, pull the Nav card, shut climate and entertainment completely off before installing.

July 29 build - originally shipped with v2.11 - I do have Nav

Why? The dealer doesn't know how to fix it. Ford doesn't know how to fix it!

The dealer can't fix it as they don't have the proper software to make it right. Let's be sure we point the finger at the responsible party here and the dealer is not that person. Ford corporate is 100% to blame for this mess. They have been given the chance to make this right for all of us and yet they seem unable or unwilling to do it. Either they are not putting the right resources into fixing the issue because of the cost or internal politics, or they simply don't care enough to make the hard choices. Perhaps they have an outsourcing issue here. If they are relying on another company to provide the goods, they might be in a tough spot because they have no in-house development team and are help captive by another company while they bring new people online.

I just don't want us to blame the dealers on this. Sure I am critical of the dealer when you take your car it time and time and they act like you must prove you have a well documented issue. I also hate to get my car back and everything says "normal operation" on the work order, but this time they are right.
