FSwerks CAI installed-have resonation in cabin at high rpms
So I just had my FSwerks CAI installed along w/Steeda STS, and SVT springs/dampers on my '10 Focus SE.
Car drives and sounds fine......for the most part. But if I let the rpms rev out to say 4500+, the car will start to resonate and it's more of annoying vibration thru the cabin. Told my mechanic and he said it's b/c the FSwerks CAI has an aluminum filter and b/c of where it's located you'll notice that vibration a bit. He said a K/N drop of the same dimension would most likely eliminate it? I just drove it again and the resonation seems to be decreasing so wonder if this will dissipates as the CAI seats itself. Anybody else not in the higher rpms with FSwerks or other CAI?

Intakes are loud. A new filter will not help. If you want it quiet I would go back to stock. Exhaust's are loud too...probably should keep that stock.
4500rpm is about when those intakes really provide power and it's just the suction side of the engine you are hearing. Nothing is wrong. Seriously though, a new filter will not help and the mechanic is trying to rip you off.

Do NOT swap out the awesome filter that comes with the fswerks for a POS k&N filter.... The mechanic has no clue what he is talking about obviously...

i would check to see if its seated on the bushing correctly, Should have LESS noise when higher RPM then Idle, my FSWERKS CAI filter works perfect. no need to replace it, wont make any difference in noise.

Thanks for the feedbacke everyone.
Well I don't know what happened but I drove the car another 45 miles or so last night and the resonance is gone. Just the normal increased sound from the intake. Maybe it was an initial seating thing or something. But it's stopped doing it after the first 8 or so miles after the install. The car defintiely feels like it's got a little more oomph now.....like it :) The Steeda STS I like but it's still a bit notchy which I'v read on here is common......hopefully it loosens up some in upcoming weeks. But overall I'm happy with it so far. 1.5" drop with SVT springs/dampers didn't hurt ride quality much and car feels tighter around the turns and like the way it sits lower. Looks kind of lame with stock wheels/tires but I'll probably wear the tires out before spending money on wheel/tire setup.

It's definitely not a "suction" sound at at all. It sounds like something vibrating against something. It's too the point that I don't want to rev the car past 4500 as the sound is that annoying...... I'm come let my buddy ride with me to have someone else hear it....as he has intakes on his cars. Then I'm going to go back to the shop and have him take a look and see if something was overlooked.

I think his suggestion about the filter was just an honest mistake in thinking on his part. But I can tell you, he's not shady at all. He'll look at everything again. In fact if I print out what you think the problem is, he'll gladly accept it and try and fix it as he told me he's totally open to whatever ideas I find ont he forum. If he sees nothing wrong, then I will take it to another shop. Thanks again.

Check your motor mounts. When those go bad the car is almost undrivable due to the noise (personal experience). If that's the case, then you should be good to go. Changing all three mounts should be no more than a 2 hour job.
Sorry about being a smart ass before and I hope I've helped you.
