I would have liked to have seen this, but I don't think it fits their business model and I don't think it makes sense to them (and I do think their model makes sense.)

S - Only in a sedan - has roll-up rear windows, not so much to save cost as to make the car less desirable. I suspect the S is only offered so Ford can claim that you can buy a Focus for $16,200.

SE - still nicely equipped and more nicely equipped than the 2012 model (at least the base trim). I'm not sure I really understand the 2013 SE Appearance package anymore, b/c by that point, you COULD buy a Titanium.

Titanium - Top of the line, except the ST, which is a pure performance option.

It makes sense - doesn't mean I agree with it.

The SE is supposed to be the volume seller and Ford should have kept all the ways you could option it instead of shoehorning people into packages and taking away some features altogether.
I disagree, the base SEL was a much better value than a loaded 2012 SE sport 203a with the dct. The price was within $150 when both had the winter package, but the SEL came with the dual zone climate control, nicer monotone seat fabrics, ambient lighting, etc. Ok so you gave up the sirius receiver but I don't care for satellite radio. Also it was the only way to get a Focus in Frosted Glass with disk brakes on all four corners with alloy wheels and a hatch.

Something else I noticed, and I'm not sure if it was brought up in here, but the SE with the Appearance package has the Titanium console with the e-brake handle further towards the center stack and the side-by-side cupholders.

Happened to take a look at one today at work - customer stopped in and I saw it out in the lot.

The SEL was nice, but what I'm saying is that if Ford absolutely had to give up a trim (presumably to save money) it should have been the SEL.

In my books, the SEL is basically a second Titanium without the black headlights. And with the ST coming, they really didn't need this many trims.

It's also just an SE that came with alloy wheels, the convenience/winter packages and the electronic HVAC.

So, that's why I think it would have been good to keep the SE and then leave the option packages as is and keep the Titanium as is. Let people choose if they want all those other things standard on the SEL.

I did see a '12 SEL hatch online the other day, it was black exterior with Camel leather interior. I didn't even know that combo was possible, but I liked it!

A couple more observations after sitting in a 2013 today....

LED interior dome lamps are gone, replaced with conventional bulbs

Interior trunk release added to headlamp switch surround.

Lame. That was one thing that really impressed me with a feeling of luxury when I sat in a 2012 SE Sport one evening...

Has the inevitable dumbing down of the US Focus already begun?

Are you sure its a regular bulb attached to the PCB that you removed and not say a more yellowish/ lower powered LED vs the whiter ones from 2012? It doesn't quite make sense that if it was a halogen bulb or something that it would still be attached to a circuit board and non replaceable.

Disappointedly, I would say so.

Confirmed from the 2013 owners manual....it's an incandescent.

That's lame, and wouldn't switching cost more in the short run anyhow? I can't really imagine this is much of a cost savings, but then again what do I know about how their accountants work. They think that saving pennies per car is worth ticking people off for. But not if they don't sell as many cars. I like my white LEDs in my 2012. Just another reason to be happy to have my 12 instead, lol.
