Pro-Clip Phone Mount

Nothing Ninja bout my edit - just someone fighting with his iPad app for this forum. I guess im not sure how to quote someone - so that was the only way to do so - lol. It was more of a bull in a china shop and less of a ninja - especially since I referenced the wrong person. Thanks for being a good sport!!

Nonetheless - im more disappointed in the return policy of this company, since i have been so vocal in praising them.

No worries. I've been considering an iPad, but am way too lazy to learn how to use it.

Funny how small the Ford world is. SF Bay Area still my favorite place to live. iPad is easy to use - only some apps are convoluted.

I finally put in my proclip mount yesterday. I bought the passenger side vent mount and it works real well for my phone. I ran a cable from a USB adapter in the rear power outlet and snaked it under the center console to behind the dash and brought it up alongside the glove box.

The only downside to this arrangement is that the phone is mounted kind of low. The only way I see around that is hanging it off the windshield or else on the left A pillar, but I don't think I'd be happy with those arrangements either.

One other thing I found with the proclip. It has a pretty strong grip, strong enough that I didn't bother using the adhesive on it. I did the same thing with my last car, and after 4 years it's still holding on just fine.

Ta Da, for those of you, who like me made the mistake of getting the Pro-Clip for the drivers side vent, and can't return it.
I may have found a simple work around for you, at least it does for me.

The problem is that the mounting puts the GPS WAY too close to the steering wheel and your fingers for safety or comfort.

Like this, sorry I was taking the pic from the passengers side with my right hand and using my left hand on the wheel.



I think I have solved the problem, for me at least, by removing the swivel mounting that fits between the GPS mount and the clip on piece.



Removing this piece gives you another 3/4 inch of space between the steering wheel and the GPS.





The down side is that you will not be able to move it around any more and its not in the "perfect position".
But it can still be easily seen and operated by the driver.



Best of all is that this is a true no cost way to go and its simple to do because the holes in the mounting match the holes in the clip, and you can use the screws you just took out to secure it in place.

It's definitely pricey, but what out there compares? I don't want to stick mine to the windshield, I don't like it blocking my view and with this windshield I don't see many options. Mounting on top of the dash isn't that great an option for me, and I'd have to mount something to the surface to make that work.

Also, keep in mind for $60 you get two pieces, and that means you can replace one or the other when you get a new device or car. Sure that's still expensive, but the fact is that it works great.

I've used on in my 135i for four years. It's worked great. It doesn't come loose and I didn't even use the adhesive. And it so happens mine worked both for my Garmin GPS and for my phone. For that kind of reliability and convenience it's worth the money to me.

There are other options. Pro-Fit-Intl has some decent options, but nothing 2012 specific yet. Their universal kits can be adapted to about anything,

I purchased the same one as you for the vent. I have a Google Nexus phone and I am beyond happy with the purchase and location of the phone. I do hate this site however, because every time I visit it, I have to spend more money on awesome upgrades to my car. Now on to finding H11 head lights....
