is this also known as a field service action ?
Steve, they are describing what they did; it was an FSA not a recall though. 12B37 was an optional sw update that was available last December. The FSA was announced by letter to all owners this past spring and included code that was updated beyond 12B37 to modify how the brake behaved when the car was stopped on a slight slope. That's why they also updated the ABS code. I preferred the 12B37 update over the FSA myself.

Hope this clarifies things.

Bob

Great thanks Bob, probably it was just the way the service dept typed it up. In conversation they made it sound like my check engine light and partial shifting failure was due to the recall/fsa they did.

This was my 2nd trip in this time with check engone light and only mild failure of shifting, the first time I lost 3 forward gears and reverse.

I am going to borrow my wife's Focus next week and my tech and I are going to reset the computer and perform adaptive learning. My thinking is that the car learned my wife's driving patterns before the FSA. I want it to start fresh and see if we can eliminate the slight shudder altogether.

I'll let you know the results if you're interested.

Is your CEL off now?

Bob, I would be very interested in that, thanks. I wondered if my frequent use of sport mode was partially responsible, plus maybe I should have used AC on and/or passengers during the learning period so the process included loads beyond just me with no ac.

Steve, I do not know whether how yours learned was influenced by the above.

As B-lou stated, I'm happy to escalate any concerns to regional Customer Service Managers. Just shoot me a PM with a little background on what you've been experiencing, VIN, estimated mileage, preferred servicing dealer, and a good daytime phone number.

Natasha is a great resource on Facebook for those of you who hang out there. Either she or I are happy to get feedback and escalate.
