Consumer Reports rates the Michelin Pilot Super Sport and Pilot Sport PS2 and gives them both "very good" rolling resistance ratings. Of course that may be relative to other summer tires, not on an absolute scale that covers all tires. |

My 2012 SEL Hatch has been averaging 36.7 MPG calculated by hand over the last 1500 miles. About 80% highway 70-75MPH, 20% daily commute light traffic in small town probably average 20MPH.

Update from my Ford dealer.
Quote:
Back from the dealer. No luck finding anything. The only thing they could find was the front passg. tire was a few pound lower then the other three. Car came up to temp and all the emissions seemed to check out. They are not sure why I am seeing 29.3 mpg on the highway. I'm going to fill up tomorrow and continue my quest for the missing mpg! The computer says I'm setting at 30.1 right now with a 1/4 tank left on a mixed city/highway run. Maybe I will buy one of the scan things to keep track of it and map it out. I was really hoping they found something. Bummer!

I have a Ti Hatch with 17 mags, going on 5,500miles so far, and 100% city driving gets me low 20's, and the best 100% highway miles reported back 39.2mpg. There was no difference on my end of my mpg before/after the break-in period. I consistenly get low 20's in the city, and if I combine 50-50 highway, I might get somewhere around 25-26mpg.

Your highway number sounds right, I'm in that ballpark (39-41) going 70-75mph

Highway at 39.2 mpg was my ultimate best, no a/c, no passengers, flat highway, no winds... Usually on highways, my average is somewhere between 31-34mpg. Not that impressive I have to point out... |

Ti w/18's mpg
I get a consistent 28 mpg, and I have a pair of hills (approx. 1/2-3/4 mi each) to climb on a daily basis - these hills have shown to definitely affect my mpg. On hwy road trips I get 34+ consistent; if I am focused (no pun intended) and really watch my driving habits, I can get a 29-30 mpg average city/hwy combined.

Took a trip up to MI this weekend. Impressive mileage once again.
It was about 20% city (by time) or 10% city (by miles) so let's call it 85% highway, 15% city. Total of 492.2 miles on the tank; I had about 0.6 gallons left when I filled up. Yeah, cutting it close - anyway... that comes out to 41.8 MPG. Was running Shell V-Power 93 Octane. Half the miles were in serious rain and/or a strong headwind and I noticed (watching the MPG meter) both caused a performance hit, as you may expect. After 11.5K miles and a few long road trips I'm starting to come to the conclusion that I realize a measurable MPG boost on 93 Octane whenever I'm running all/mostly highway. When it's my more-usual 50/50 city highway split, I'm not sure that there's an MPG benefit from running premium. One final note - MPG meter in car indicated 39.8, actual was 41.8. Pretty much in line with the 5% variation I usually see. What I do find interesting, though, is that the car more often underestimates when I run premium and overestimates when I'm running regular.
