There are two caliper bolts that are the caliper slides, they are 14mm. Use a socket and ratchet to un-screw them. The caliper then comes off and the pads slide off. Keep in mind you don't want to have the caliper hanging by the rubber brake line, so if you have some rope or even string to hang from the spring thats what I have used in the past.
Don't qoute me but I think the torque specs on the caliper bolts are 35 ft. lbs. If they are over tightened they can break off during driving because of the heat of the caliper when braking. If you are worried about them coming loose buy some blue thread locker for them. It will keep them from coming loose but allow you to take them out when needed. Here is a Tousley ford diagram of the front brakes. #7 is the caliper bolts, which are actually on the back of the caliper.

No "special" tools are needed. Metric wrenches and /or sockets are needed. A screw driver to remove brake springs, a pair of pliers and a C-clamp to compress the caliper piston (although I have also used some big channel locks and a small block of wood to do so). You'll need a small open end wrench (7 or 8mm if I remember correctly) and some clear vinyl or rubber hose (that will fit on the brake bleeder fitting) to bleed the system (bleed all four corners not just the fronts).
